Green Living

In an effort to make our house more "green" I attended the Green Living show recently in Toronto with my friend Jill. There were many neat "green" products on display; including less harmful bleaches and laundry detergents that are safe for use on children's clothing. Presidents Choice had a huge booth and were giving away their Multi Purpose Cleaning Putty and Floor Cleaners (full size samples!). Their putty is my new "green" alternative to Comet. It is wonderful for cleaning the kitchen sink and getting rid of calcium build-up. It is super concentrated as well so you really only need a small amount. I would imagine the container will last at least a year with how little you use. I picked up a Klean Kanteen to replace my Nalgene bottles after the recent concerns over BPA. I am trying to reduce my use of disposable plastic water bottles and refill my Klean Kanteen with fridge-filtered tap water instead. I also got some Eco Bags for produce when I do the groceries. I have mostly eliminated plastic bags by using bins when grocery shopping except for produce bags and the Eco Bags were my answer to that problem. I really don't like using plastic produce bags as they are such a waste just storing our produce from the grocery store to home and then they get thrown out. I would use them for dog waste on our walks but I find they are too thin for that. There was a booth showcasing reusable diapers which is one green step I cannot bring myself to make but I figure with the other changes I am making we are making a bit of a difference. Every little bit counts, right?
