Pregnancy is not kind to me. I now have cankles (for those of you who don't know that is when you have no ankles because they are so swollen that your calves run in to them; calves + ankles = cankles). My feet are so swollen that my crocs fit tight. Luckily it doesn't hurt that much; it is sort of itchy, I guess because my skin is stretching so much. My feet also feel like they have jelly in them when I walk. I called one of my neighbours who is a nurse last night to ask about it and she said to keep my feet elevated above my heart and take it easy. She said to call my OB on Monday to discuss (my next appt isn't scheduled until Friday). I also read online that it is a good idea to sleep on your left side and rest on your left side, as you can, for 30 minutes at a time throughout the day.
Tomorrow I am supposed to go for my Christmas Pedicure with my friend Shannon (which would be nice for my swollen feet!). We have been getting pedis at Christmas every year for about the last 10 years or so I'd say, rather than buying each other Christmas presents. We always pick a place where we can both get pedis at the same time and just have a nice visit with each other. Hopefully mother nature will cooperate with our pedi plans as I hear we are in for a brutal storm tonight and tomorrow. Another 15-25 cms of snow (this is in ADDITION to the almost 3 feet we have already). I guess it is going to be a white Christmas!

Lying on your left side takes the pressure off your IVC - the big vein that brings the blood back to your heart from the lower half of your body. If the pressure is off, then the blood won't pool (as much) in you legs :)
See how fun anatomy can be? ;)
