Happy New Year

It has been entirely too long since my last post and as such I have lots to report.
At work there was a draw for a chance to purchase a PS3. We were notified of the draw sometime in November and thought we'd put our names on the list and decide what to do if my name was drawn. Well, they drew my name (I was one of the 37 lucky people from a list of 250+ names drawn) so a decision had to be made. We decided to keep the PS3, the fact it included a Blu-Ray player weighed heavily on our decision. To buy a Blu-Ray player separately would set us back about $1200. Then after some investigating we have decided to purchase a new television. Apparently the tv we currently have does not have the proper resolution to experience the PS3 (and HDTV) as they were meant to be. On top of this we have a payment plan at work, so I am able to spread the cost of the tv over a year's worth of pay cheques. I must admit I did really want to get rid of our current tv as it takes up a lot of room and a nice flat 46" XBR will look much better. Our current tv was purchased by Chris & Nikki off us, so it is going to a good home where Ryan can still visit it. Now our dilemma is finding a stand for the tv. One of my coworkers recently got the same tv and a good point was made about the component area of the stand and children. While we do not currently have children there will (God-willing) be some in our future and we won't want them touching the components, therefore we need a stand that has glass covering the components, which is surprisingly difficult to find. We might have to resort to buying a stand and having a glass door made for it (if such a thing can be done at a reasonable cost). I don't want to buy a stand now without glass doors, only to buy another one in a few years when we require a stand with doors. My mom has compared this whole Playstation and needing a new tv scene to that of buying a painting and ending up having to paint the room you wish to have the painting in, to complement the painting, and possibly changing the furniture...you get the "picture".

On the 22nd we booked a trip to Cozumel. We leave on Friday. We'll be enjoying a week at the Melia Cozumel. This was somewhat our Christmas present to each other. I cannot wait for Friday and lying on the beach reading my favourite Christmas Present. Ryan got me the The Dictionary of Corporate Bullshit which is a brilliant book about the true meaning of words you hear around the office. I also look forward to reading An Inconvenient Truth about Global Warming, which I think in a way might scare the heck out of me but at the same time is a must-read from what I've heard. I also picked up the School for Husbands to read on the beach. I know 3 books sounds like a lot but I'll get through them all. I just finished reading Stupid and Contagious which is a laugh-out-loud Chicklit for those of you out there who like girlie books. I cannot wait until Caprice Crane's next novel comes out in August.
On Christmas Eve we had my parents and the Gibbons over for dinner. This has been a new tradition of sorts, since Ryan and I got engaged. We eat dinner, then attend Christmas Eve mass together. Since I don't have pictures from dinner I'll share a few pictures of our Christmas decorations with you:
A close-up of our stocking holders from Targee (probably my fav. post-US Thanksgiving shopping trip find):

And the Angel on top (this pic is for you Patty):
Christmas Day was spent first with my family, then with Ryan's after dinner. Boxing Day we went to Lesley and Don's house to see my extended family. It was great to see everyone, we truly do not get to see our extended family enough.
Happy New Year everyone!

Congratulations on winning the PS3! that's a great perk... :)

And the books sound great, although I don't think I'd ever be able to read that much in a week. I'm a slow reader, and I get too distracted by my surroundings unless I'm sitting at home in bed. And then I just get tired and turn out the light.

Have a great time in Cozumel! Are you planning to do any diving or snorkeling?

I hope to do some snorkeling as I hear their reefs are amazing. I will let you know when I get back!
