Some Observations

  • Winter arrived while we were in Cozumel, I was secretly hoping our spring-like conditions would stick around until spring.
  • Rather than reading the book, I watched the movie An Inconvenient Truth with Ryan on the weekend. Global warming is scary. I didn't realize how much little changes, such as using compact fluorescents (if everyone did), will make such a big difference
  • Car shopping sucks when you are forced into it, have to make a decision quickly, and have little time to do research. It also takes up a crazy amount of time. Car shopping is a lot of fun if it is your first car, or if your lease is ending and you know it is coming up and that you must find a replacement vehicle.
  • A decent car is soooo important. My crappy rental Sebring is horrible to drive in the snow and the back end loses control (or so it feels) with the slightest amount of snow on the roads. It also has really really uncomfortable seats, so my insurance company is getting me an Obus Forme.
  • I decided on the AWD Chevrolet Equinox in White. I wanted something a little bigger than my Jetta, even though my Jetta saved my life. It has really cool features for when we have kids (which God-willing might come along during the life of the Equinox's lease).
  • I have become a heated seats princess. There was no negotiating that my new vehicle had to have heated seats. My crappy rental car does not have them and I really miss them.
  • There are a lot of idiots out there on the road, I think I notice them more so since the accident. I suppose I could have included myself in this group of idiots from my pre-accident driving days. I now realize that some people drive slower because they are scared, or have just been through an accident like me!
  • I am now terrified of driving in the slightest bit of snow. Which sucks because a huge portion of my job is driving and time spent in my car. Yesterday while out at Physio it was very snowy and I did not want to drive home. I did though, and it turned out the roads were much worse in Newmarket than east of it, out our way. One of our good friends was in a bad accident a while back and he tells me it took him a year to become a confident driver again. I am going to do some driver training through Ryan's work in the summer, it doesn't hurt to take a refresher course.
  • I really miss my Giga Panel. Surprisingly it lived through the car crash with just a little scratch. Ryan said the radio was still going when they pulled my car out of the ditch. I think Paul is going to inherit it as my new car will have a 6 disc MP3 player and a plug in for my Sony MP3 player, as well as satellite radio.
  • My insurance company has been amazing through this whole accident. They even reimburse me for housekeeping services (my physiotherapist told me I cannot vacuum or clean as it could further hurt my back and neck). I might as well take advantage of a cleaning lady while I can.
  • My family doctor said I would be easy irritable, really emotional and forgetful after the accident. Man was she ever correct. The silliest things make me cry. I wonder how long this will last.
  • A lot of people love me out there. Thanks to everyone for your calls and good wishes after the accident. You made me feel really special.

Hey Katie (Kate???) :)

I'm so glad to hear that you were okay after your accident... well, in a relative sense at least.

And I know what you mean about some cars being absolutely frightening to drive. I remember having a Hyundai Accent once as a rental, and I thought I was going to get blown right off the 400 when I was driving through the Marsh. It was like a tin can with a lawnmower engine. Awful.

I've never had heated seats in any of my vehicles, but I can completely understand that once you have something it's hard to go back. We have a remote starter on the van, and after a year of not using it (never thinking about it), I started using it all the time and now I love it and wouldn't want a vehicle without it. I think Shannon would tell you that a Sunroof has the same effect on you...

good luck with the car shopping. I look forward to seeing pictures of the new wheels. :)
