American Idol - Jasmine Holland

Lately Ryan and I have been watching the American Idol auditions. I love to see people make asses of themselves. Last week they were auditioning in Texas. One girl, who was not too enthusiastic about trying out, but was encouraged to do so by her mother, had a horrible audition. It started out with them showing her family, who had brought a sign that said "Jasmines Are American Idol". Now I know my grammar/spelling isn't always correct but come on! OUR Idol people. Needless to say Jasmine blew the audition; the judges didn't let her through. She then proceeded to ask Randy, what do you do? Calling him a nobody. He's only an awarding winning producer honey, making royalties off of most songs you hear on the radio, but she'll never know what a producer is. He is probably the most qualified judge of them all. Then she exited the audition room and her mother started on about Simon. What does he know about American Idol's? "He's not even American. He needs to go back. Where's he from, French?" When Ryan Seacrest told them he's actually British, Jasmine's mother said, "right, he needs to go back to British then". They are the people that create the stereotypes about people from the deep southern states. Watch the recap if the site works for you, I couldn't get the video to work for me.
As an aside, Eats, Shoots and Leaves is a great read for all the people making signs for their (or should I say there?!) favourite American Idol out there...

When I read "Jasmines Are American Idol" I honestly didn't know what they were trying to communicate until you clarified the "are/our" thing...

That's awful. sad sad sad...

I haven't watched any of the auditions this year, although I have to admit, I do find them entertaining. :)

(And you're right - Randy won a grammy yesterday. I watched the whole freaking event just so I could see the Chili Peppers performing, and sadly, that was a big of a letdown.)

I'm surprised her name wasn't "Jazzmeen"...
