I am so sick of hearing Toronto whine about how they don't have enough money and how they are in debt, etc, etc. This week I heard in the news that Toronto residential property owners pay significantly LESS property tax than surrounding GTA neighbours. The example given on the radio was that in Oshawa a house would pay about $4100/yr in taxes while a comparable house in the Danforth area pays just $1200. How is this fair? A quick search on the internet
confirmed this. Our property taxes are about 3 times the Danforth example that was stated and for what? I don't get access to great transit like the TTC, nor is everything so close and handy to us. From what I understand, a lot of our regional taxes go to Toronto. And in the news today city councillors have decided to
reject their pay cut offer. How about we stop the whining Toronto and do a one-time tax increase to put your property taxes on par with the rest of the GTA?

Don't even get me started on the differences in property taxes between Toronto The City and The Suburbs!!
FYI: I am told that Oshawa taxes are actually the highest in Durham Region because the city didn't raise them very much for the last 30 years and now everything is falling apart and needs fixing.
Lucky me!
