Well the Ferber method works wonders. It has to be one of the hardest things I've ever done in my life. First was drop the soother. We cut it out during the days, except for nap and bedtime. Then it was drop it cold turkey. The first night was brutal, 45 minutes of screaming before bedtime and I think she finally exhausted herself. That night was also brutal whenever she woke up. It turns out that night I wasn't quite following the "rules" as I'd stay with her until she completely calmed down which you are supposed to only go in and stay for a minute or so, even if the crying doesn't stop. The second night she only woke up once, cried for about half an hour but not to the point where I had to intervene. Last night she woke up once and cried for not quite 5 minutes, but bedtime was difficult (however we don't mind that so much since we are up anyways, it is just hard to hear her crying). I think we are over the soother now (according to Ferber it takes 2 days/nights for a child under 12 months to get over the soother not being there). I am looking forward to not having to get up at all at night, hopefully tonight based on how last night went but I don't want to jinx us!
