Recently I noticed a small box on my Bell mobility bill informing me they are going to start to charge for incoming text messages (at 15 cents/message). Had I not noticed the box on the bill I would have carried on my text messaging ways. Now I'll think twice and call to leave a voice mail instead of sending a text. I'm sure many will miss this small box on their bill and wind up with a large bill. To me it isn't fair because if someone is calling my cellphone I can choose whether to screen the call (via call display or voicemail) or answer it (and use my minutes/pay for the call in my choice of answering it). With a text you have no control, once it is received you are charged. I have to call Bell to see if I can turn off texting so that I cannot receive messages that I do not want to pay for. I'm also pissed that I signed a 1 year contract (which doesn't expire until November-ish) and in the contract it said free incoming texts - so you'd think they'd be free until my contract expires, not the case. What is the point in having a contract if Bell can change its terms and conditions in the middle of it? God knows if I called them to change the conditions mid-term they wouldn't go for it. There has been some news in the media about this issue. Jack Layton has started a petition. If you agree Bell and Telus are in the wrong for doing this please take a moment and
sign. Perhaps we'll switch to Rogers.

That's annoying for you. I agree. I'd also be mad.
But as an aside, I'm a little jealous, because I've always had to pay for incoming text messages. I feel like I missed out.
