I had my first appointment with my OB today. She is wonderful. We spent about half an hour together just chatting. At one point she went off on a tangent about epidurals and I was concerned what was coming next was she was anti-epidural but she said we'll see how my labour goes. With her first she said she was 8 cms when she got to the hospital and 1/2 hour later baby was out with no time for drugs. She told me she had told the delivering doctor "but I'm a doctor, I was drugs, I love drugs" LOL. She also asked if anyone would be in the delivery room except for Ryan and I said NO - we are not calling anyone to even let on we are in labour until the baby is out and I'm all cleaned up and such then and ONLY then do I want any visitors (during visiting hours if we feel up to it)...so I think that means no one will be allowed in (DAD! Even your connections at the hospital won't work for you) . If I happen to change my mind, we'll call you if we (I) want you there! All in all it was a wonderful visit today. She said the baby is the size it should be and my due date is bang-on based on the ultrasound measurements/dating. There were lots of questions she had for me too that I wasn't sure on that require Ryan and I to talk, such as whether or not he wants to cut the cord.
On another note my belly button is almost an outie now (scary). Sometimes when I breathe in and out through my diaphragm (not sure how much longer I can breathe that way - I was "trained" to breathe that way in music class as a child) it pops out and then back in, sort of freaky.
Hope everyone has a Happy Thanksgiving this weekend, Ryan and I are celebrating by going to spend our money in the US!

Hey Katie,
That's great news that that things are going well and that the little bean is growing at the right pace.
It's good not to have a preconceived notion about the epidural - I thought I'd go natural, but Kai took his time coming out, and I needed a break.
And I can also relate on the "visitor" issue - I didn't want anyone else around me at the hospital but Keith and my midwives. Of course, there were a gaggle of nurses and doctors and midwives by the time Kai finally came out, but by then I was so tired that I didn't care who was around. Fortunately, for me, this happened in the middle of the SARS epidemic, so we weren't allowed to have any other people with us even if we had wanted them. Mind you, because I had midwives, I was only at the hospital for about 12 hours after he was born, so we had plenty of visitors the next day. :)
Anyhow, I'm looking forward to seeing you and Ryan in November! In the meantime, happy thanksgiving, and have fun shopping!
Hmm I don't dare wish for another SARS episode, especially with all the family we have who work in hospitals but would be nice to have some time to ourselves without being overwhelmed with visitors! I can relate to how excited people will be but at the same time we'll need our space too...
