Winter Driving

I can't believe I forgot to post about the most important part of my day yesterday; I survived driving this year's first snowfall! Now I must admit it wasn't like we got a huge dumping of snow, but there was the risk of ice and Newmarket reportedly got 4-8 cms according to CBC's evening news last night. I was going to stay home when I woke up to snow on the grass and on the roof tops but I had a meeting in Mississauga with my coworker and the VP of Finance of our customer so I couldn't really miss it. I must say there were still a number of idiots on the highway who I passed; if you don't feel comfortable driving in this weather then take a slower route or stay out of the passing lane! I set my cruise probably just over 100 and was moving with the flow of traffic in the right lane. There were many people who I passed sitting in the middle lane who couldn't have been going more than 80 km/hr.

On another note Ontario recently passed a law to try and combat street racing. If you have a moment take a look at this article from the Star. I enjoyed all its examples of people whining because they were caught going 50 kms/hr or more over the posted limit and they felt the law didn't apply to them: "I have three kids, I have to go to work for a week and they just do not give a crap. They have no sympathy for people and it's unfair and they treat people like crap." Perhaps you should think of your three kids when you decide to take your life in your hands (and the lives of others on the road) by driving that fast! I think this new law was a great idea and the police cannot believe the number of drivers who are getting caught; I have heard rumblings that they are thinking of changing the law to impact drivers who are caught going 30 or 40 km/hr over the limit. I also think there should be some law that applies to trucks which applies at say 20 km/hr over the limit. There are so many dump trucks in our area who cause accidents and deaths due to speeding and running red lights and nothing is done about it. Trucks cannot stop as fast (or as safely) as cars can and there ought to be a law for them as well.
